Why does Jeff have a desire to change his community and to change the world?
Jeff has been a gang leader, a drug addict, a homeless person, and an inmate.
He knows first hand what it's like to be turned down for a jar of peanut butter
at the food bank because he didn't have an ID. He knows what it's like to walk
all night in the cold because he was afraid if he sat down and fell asleep he
would freeze. Jeff knows what it's like to drink water from a mud puddle
because he had no way to get a drink of water. He knows what it's like to look
for food in a dumpster. He knows what it's like to sleep in the crawl space of
someones house to get out of the cold. Jeff knows what it's like to bumm enough
money for an all day bus pass to ride a bus all day to stay out of the rain or the cold.
He knows what it's like to rob a senior citizen in order to get more drugs. He knows what it's like to sit in jail not knowing what's going on outside or when he might get out. Jeff knows what it's like to lose all contact with his family because they couldn't take it anymore.

Jeff knows what it's like to live a life of hopelessness. That's why he has to let people know that change is possible, that healing is available, that hope is real and His name is Jesus! Jeff is called by God to share the hope he's found in Jesus Christ with people that many others would not, or could not reach.

Jason Fleming National Recovery Ambassador

Jason is currently serving as Prison/Jail Ministry Leader through Forever Free in
North Little Rock, Arkansas. He has been involved in recovery ministry since
2016. Jason truly cares about people and he especially has a heart for the
people who are incarcerated who feel as if no one cares about them. He
began serving in the prison ministry during the beginning of Covid season
when he got the privilege of doing his first group through zoom. Doing this
class helped him to know for a fact that he was doing what God has called him
to do. Jason's quote when it comes to Prison Ministry is, "This is by far my
favorite thing to do when it comes to ministry."
Jason has recently accepted the role of National Ambassador for the Prison/Jail
Ministry for Recovery Alive and will help and give you all the wisdom he has to help you get started in Prison/Jail Ministry and will help you in any way possible to have an effective prison/jail ministry in your hometown.
Jason and his prison/jail ministry team in Arkansas has been able to put hundreds of men and women through the Progress Group. They believe in this ministry and are working hard to help these men and women go home different. The quote we hear the most from the prison/jail ministry residents is, "This is the best and most effective class in our facility, Thank You." We always remind them that it is isn't us, but it is God.
In August 2019, Joey Boykin, a business owner for over 25 years, faced a dark
period, realizing he was a functioning alcoholic in denial. This led him to step
one in his recovery, acknowledging his powerlessness. Joey, a grateful
believer in Jesus Christ, celebrates over four years of freedom from alcohol
addiction, despite ongoing struggles with patience and anger.
His true recovery began in 2020 with Recovery Alive, where he found healing and
learned forgiveness. In 2023, Joey was honored as the Recovery Person of the Year
at the second annual Recovery Alive Gala. He is the Outreach Director at Temple City
Church and the National Ambassador for Outreach at Recovery Alive Inc.
For the past five years, Joey has brought resources, hope, and love to his community, passionately teaching the importance of step 12 in recovery. Leading a team of volunteers, he is dedicated to giving back and sharing how God changed their lives, always seeking to help one more person on their recovery journey.

Krista is a grateful believer in Jesus Christ and a recovering alcoholic. She was
raised in a loving family and grew up in the church, but somewhere in her early
teens, she lost her way and found herself at the bottom of a bottle every day.
Krista's life became a cycle of violence, arrests, and destruction, and no
one—not even her family knew how to help her. In her community, recovery
resources were nonexistent.

After Krista's last arrest, she faced a felony that could have put her away for 20
years. It was then, in her stillness, that she finally listened. A lawyer visited her and
offered a chance at life—if she was willing to go to treatment. Krista bonded out,
entered treatment, and was introduced to the 12 Steps. She didn’t just hear them—she lived
them. From day one, she questioned why the whole world wasn’t following this way of life. Why did it take her darkest days to lead her to something so powerful? She knew then that recovery wasn’t just for addicts—it was for everyone.

Eight years into Krista's recovery journey, she was introduced to Recovery Alive at her local church. After years of serving her community, witnessing countless relapses, and attending too many funerals, she finally saw a program that had the power to change the world. The missing piece was Jesus. The missing piece was full surrender.
Five months ago, her husband relapsed after nearly four years of recovery. Without the tools she's gained through Recovery Alive, Krista would either be in divorce court or planning his funeral. Instead, she's learned how surrender is a lifestyle not just a one-time decision. Surrender is something she walks in every single day.

Krista wants to use her platform to share this hope with the world to reach all the little Kristas out there who feel lost and broken. She believes in Recovery Alive’s mission, and she won’t stop telling the world about it.

Wendy Sorrell NC Women's Prison & Jail
Ministry Leader
"Standing in a prison cell I had created for myself, with the door wide open,
but no ability to walk out."

That’s how Wendy Sorrell describes the reality she lived in for so long. Even
though she had already given her life to Jesus at sixteen years old — even
though she was fully known by God — shame had built walls around her heart.
She carried her past like invisible chains, and though she desperately wanted to
be known and loved by others, fear and shame kept her isolated.

"I was fully known by God but not by fellow believers. I wanted to be known, but I was held
captive by the shame of my past. The result was isolation. I didn’t have the tools to break free."

It wasn’t until Wendy found Recovery Alive that everything changed. RA didn't just give her community, it gave her the tools, the hope, and the permission to walk out of that prison cell and into the freedom God had been offering all along.

Today, Wendy is boldly living in that freedom. She now serves as our Women's NC Prison and Jail Ministry Leader, helping bring the same hope, tools, and healing to women behind real prison walls, women who, like she once was, may feel trapped by invisible ones.

Her life is a living testimony: the door is open, the way is made, and through Christ-centered recovery, freedom is possible.

Born in Honduras, Yuri saw and lived what shame, abuse, alcoholism, etc. can
do to people and families, including his own. While working through his
recovery, Yuri felt the tug of bringing recovery to other countries. He
has been leading mission trips for the past 10 years, going to different
countries in South America, the Caribbean and Central America.
Yuri learned about recovery during a very difficult time that brought
restoration and reconciliation into his life. During his journey towards healing
through recovery, God placed in his heart the need to share and take Recovery Alive
internationally.
Yuri loves to see people's reactions when they hear the stories of people who are hurting and being FREED from their pain, while continuing to work on their brokenness through Recovery Alive. He is grateful for Recovery Alive, because it has helped him work through his shame, depression, anxiety, self-worth and many other issues that he is continuing to struggle with. He firmly believes that through God's grace, mercy, and love those struggles will be overcome.

Recovery Español is only the beginning of God's plan to bring peace and healing to those who are suffering and struggling outside of the United States. Yuri prays that one day Recovery Alive can be all over the world helping people through the Christ-centered 12 steps.

Mark 16:15 says "then he said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'" Through this Ambassador opportunity that God has given him, Yuri hopes that you can first PRAY for those people coming to hear what Recovery Alive is, what it is doing and continues to do, and what God's vision has for you as He sends you to reach others.
